Buffer is worth comparing for scheduling and adapting drafts. OpenPost is worth evaluating when you want drafts, media editing, destination-specific versions, and automation together. Postiz is another option to compare if self-hosting matters. Test your actual accounts before choosing. Written by the team behind OpenPost. Check provider requirements and live-account readiness before planning a launch. [Check channel availability →](https://openpo.st/platforms.md) #### Choose for your weekly workflow A founder sharing two product updates a week has different needs from a team answering customer messages all day. Write down your channels, post formats, and who reviews the content. Compare tools against that list before comparing plan names. - Mostly scheduling finished posts: try the queue, calendar, and per-channel preview in Buffer. - Creating content from product work: evaluate OpenPost's composer, media tools, and separate versions for each destination. - Running the service on your own infrastructure: compare OpenPost and Postiz, including maintenance and provider setup. #### Try one real product update Use the same source text and image in each candidate. Prepare the versions you would actually publish, adjust one destination, and check that the other versions stay intact. Then inspect the schedule, failure reporting, and results your account can retrieve. A feature list cannot answer those questions for you. #### Compare the total cost Count the accounts and people you need, then check current plan limits. For self-hosting, include the server, backups, media storage, provider access, and your maintenance time. Source access does not make operation free. #### Sources - Buffer scheduling documentation - Postiz introduction [Explore OpenPost features](https://openpo.st/index.md#features) #### Start with your next post. Check provider requirements and live-account readiness before planning a launch. [Check channel availability →](https://openpo.st/platforms.md) #### Write down the evidence first Collect what changed, who can use it, where they find it, and any limits. Add a screenshot or short recording that demonstrates the change. This gives both you and a writing assistant something specific to work from. #### Turn a release note into a useful post Suppose your product now exports invoices as CSV. A useful source draft is: 'You can now export invoices as CSV from Billing. Choose a date range, download the file, and open it in your spreadsheet. Available to workspace admins.' That tells the reader what changed without inventing time savings or customer results. - Short post: "Invoice CSV export is here. Workspace admins can choose a date range in Billing and download a file for their spreadsheet." - LinkedIn draft: "Need your invoice data in a spreadsheet? Workspace admins can now export a CSV from Billing. Select a date range, download the file, and open it in your spreadsheet. The screenshot shows where to find the export." - For a video, record the export and make the output readable. - Check every version for access restrictions, factual accuracy, and a working link. #### Keep the versions attached to the same idea Start a draft in OpenPost, choose your accounts, and adjust the words and images for each channel. Your versions stay together, so you can return to the same idea without searching through several apps. [Check channel availability →](https://openpo.st/platforms.md) #### Check the account and format, not just the logo A tool listing Instagram does not establish that every Instagram account type or format works. Check the account requirements and whether your chosen post can publish directly. Confirm these for every destination you plan to use. #### Prepare and inspect every destination Select the accounts in OpenPost's composer, write the shared draft, and then review each version. Adjust text and media for that account. Choose the schedule and inspect any destination-specific timing before confirming. - Verify the timezone and calendar date, especially around daylight saving changes. - Check that your images and videos fit the channel. - Use a small test post before scheduling an important launch. - After publication, inspect the actual provider post and the recorded outcome. #### Plan for partial failure One destination can fail while another publishes. Check which post exists on the provider before retrying so you do not create a duplicate. OpenPost exposes publishing and retry state; provider capabilities and readiness still vary. Check provider requirements and live-account readiness before planning a launch. [Check channel availability →](https://openpo.st/platforms.md) #### When Buffer is the better fit Buffer is a practical choice for scheduling finished content on a small number of accounts. Its Free plan lets you begin without a subscription. Team includes unlimited users and approval workflows, which can suit a large group managing relatively few channels. - Free allows three connected channels, one user, and ten queued posts per channel. There is also a lifetime cap of eight distinct channel connections. - Buffer supports API and MCP access as well as external automation integrations. Agent access alone is not a reason to switch tools. #### Buffer costs and limits These USD rates apply to the first ten paid channels. Each connected account is billed, including channels previously used on Free. Further channels receive volume discounts. Annual prices below are the yearly cost per channel, not a monthly invoice. Buffer plans | Plan | Billing | Channels | People and scheduling | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Free | $0 | 3 | 1 user; 10 queued posts/channel | | Essentials | $6/channel/month or $60/channel/year | Pay per connected channel | 1 user; paid scheduling subject to fair use | | Team | $12/channel/month or $120/channel/year | Pay per connected channel | Unlimited users; approvals; paid scheduling subject to fair use | - For five channels on monthly billing, Essentials costs $30 and Team costs $60. Use Buffer's calculator for larger account counts and check its current fair-use terms. #### OpenPost Hosted costs and limits Prices are in USD before tax. Limits apply separately to each workspace. Hosted signups are currently on a waitlist while the remaining platform approvals are completed. Check admission and your exact account and format before choosing a plan. OpenPost Hosted plans | Plan | Billing | Workspaces | Limits per workspace | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Solo | $29/month or $290/year | 1 | 10 social accounts, 1 person, 500 scheduled posts/month, 10 GB storage and 10 GB uploads/month | | Team | $59/month or $590/year | 3 | 10 social accounts, 5 people, 500 scheduled posts/month, 10 GB storage and 10 GB uploads/month | | Agency | $99/month or $990/year | 10 | 10 social accounts, 10 people, 500 scheduled posts/month, 10 GB storage and 10 GB uploads/month | - All Hosted plans include the same tools. The 14-day trial requires a card; $0 is due at checkout when admission is open. - A scheduled post counts once across its destinations and thread segments. Monthly allowances reset by calendar month in UTC. Provider quotas can impose further limits. - Self-hosting has no software fee. Budget separately for infrastructure, backups, storage, provider API use, and maintenance. #### When OpenPost is the better fit Evaluate OpenPost if preparing content takes more of your time than placing finished posts in a queue. Its Image Editor, Video Editor, Recorder, media library, and channel-specific versions keep creation and publishing in one workspace. Built-in Workflows can prepare drafts from releases, feeds, or API responses for review. - OpenPost offers self-hosting if you need to operate your own instance. You own provider setup and maintenance. - Compare the actual workflow, not a feature count. Test media editing, one destination-specific change, and a failed delivery before moving important posts. #### Check the same real post in both tools Connect the accounts and formats you actually use. Prepare the same announcement and media, adjust one channel, and inspect the schedule and outcome. Compare the complete bill for your accounts and people. Keep your existing scheduler until the replacement has passed this check. #### Sources - Buffer plan prices, limits, and features - Buffer pricing calculator and fair-use terms - [OpenPost pricing and usage limits](https://openpo.st/pricing.md) - OpenPost admission and product scope - [OpenPost channel requirements](https://openpo.st/platforms.md) - OpenPost Workflows [Compare OpenPost plans](https://openpo.st/pricing.md) #### Start with your next post. Check the exact account type and publishing format instead of treating either product's integration list as a guarantee. - Postiz includes API, CLI, MCP, and webhooks on every Hosted plan. These are shared capabilities, not an OpenPost advantage. - Postiz's paid plans advertise unlimited monthly posts. Confirm applicable provider and service limits for your workload. #### Postiz costs and limits The annual rates below are monthly equivalents paid yearly, as listed by Postiz. Its Workflows can combine triggers, conditions, AI steps, and review before scheduling. Postiz also offers media editing and automation, so test the particular editing and review tasks you need. #### Compare self-hosting responsibilities OpenPost's default deployment uses one container with SQLite and local media storage. Postiz's recommended Docker Compose stack includes the application, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Temporal. OpenPost can fit an operator who wants fewer services to maintain; Postiz can fit an operator already comfortable with its stack and provider coverage. - Both require you to maintain backups, upgrades, storage, credentials, and the provider applications your accounts need. - Postiz documents a Polotno license requirement for its self-hosted design editor. Check that requirement and any AI provider costs before budgeting media features. - Before switching, test one real account, a media post, a channel-specific edit, and recovery from a failed publish. Keep your old setup until the new one works for your exact destinations. #### Sources - Postiz Hosted prices and plan allowances - Postiz product and channel documentation - Postiz installation options - Postiz self-hosted design editor requirements - [OpenPost pricing and usage limits](https://openpo.st/pricing.md) - OpenPost admission and product scope - [OpenPost channel requirements](https://openpo.st/platforms.md) - OpenPost self-hosting [Compare OpenPost plans](https://openpo.st/pricing.md) #### Start with your next post. Test the inbox and analytics your accounts expose, rather than assuming enterprise reporting or customer-care parity. #### Check the workflow beyond scheduling Try a real review, a failed delivery, and an inbox conversation. This means no incident has been disclosed here; it is not a guarantee that no security or privacy event has ever occurred. When the operator confirms a material managed-service incident, OpenPost will add the date, affected service and data, customer action, and remediation status when disclosure is lawful and does not increase risk. #### Tell us privately. The details below cover app.openpo.st and are reviewed regularly. They describe our practices, not a security certification. Reviewed 11 August 2026 Review due 11 November 2026 Primary service data Falkenstein, Germany (FSN1) Media objects Cloudflare automatic placement; no jurisdiction restriction is configured Human access One named operator; key-only SSH and sudo; no two-person approval. #### Each storage boundary has a different retention rule. Browser-local editor data is included so the boundary is explicit even before anything reaches the Hosted service. ##### Application, database, and logs Hetzner Online GmbH Falkenstein, Germany (FSN1) Data Accounts, workspaces, drafts, schedules, encrypted social credentials, billing status, and operational logs. Retention Active service data is kept while needed to provide the account and for the legal, security, and dispute periods described in the Privacy Policy. Managed host journals are size-bounded to 50 MiB of persistent storage and 10 MiB of runtime storage rather than kept for a fixed number of days. Protection The host uses key-only SSH, blocks direct root and password login, and limits database and service access to the application and operator boundary. ##### Database and media recovery copies Hetzner Online GmbH Falkenstein, Germany (FSN1) Data Daily PostgreSQL dumps, a synchronized media copy, and retained changed or deleted media versions. Retention Routine database dumps and changed or deleted media versions are pruned by the next daily run after they are more than 14 days old. Operator-created repair or incident snapshots are reviewed separately and kept only while needed for recovery, security, legal duties, fraud prevention, or legal claims. Protection Recovery files are root-owned and not served by the application. OpenPost does not add a separate application-level encryption layer to each artifact. A weekly restore drill validates the latest database copy and the media inventory. ##### Uploaded and generated media Cloudflare, Inc. (R2) Cloudflare automatic placement; no jurisdiction restriction is configured Data Uploaded media, editor exports saved to Media, thumbnails, and object metadata. Retention Live objects follow account, workspace, trash, and media-retention rules. The separate host recovery copy follows the retention described above. Protection OpenPost uses authenticated HTTPS access and private storage credentials. Objects that must be fetched by a selected social network can receive a signed or public delivery URL. ##### Browser-local editor data The user's browser and device The user's device Data Unsynced Image Editor recovery data and local Video Editor projects, sources, recordings, transcripts, analysis, models, and exports. Retention Data remains until the user deletes it, the product removes an expired local artifact, or site data is cleared. Protection This data is outside the managed cloud until the user chooses a cloud save, Media save, or composer handoff. Device and browser security remain the user's responsibility. #### Required services and feature-triggered recipients are named separately. “Feature-triggered” means no request is sent until that feature is used. A provider's role describes this OpenPost data path; it does not replace the provider's own terms. ##### Hetzner Online GmbH Required service Subprocessor Purpose Runs the managed application host, PostgreSQL database, local recovery copies, and operational logs. Data The service data stored or processed by the managed application, plus limited infrastructure metadata. Location Falkenstein, Germany (FSN1). Transfer facts The primary customer-data host is in Germany. Hetzner states that data remains in the EU unless it identifies another transfer. docs.hetzner.com sourcehetzner.com source ##### PostHog, Inc. Required service Subprocessor Purpose Receives consent-aware product, public-site, service, and error telemetry so OpenPost can measure use, understand acquisition, diagnose failures, and improve the hosted service. Data Persistent first-party browser events and country for visitors who allow analytics cookies; limited cookieless personless events when visitors choose cookie-free analytics; opaque managed-service user and workspace identifiers; product and service events; browser, service, release, route-template, status, and sanitized error context. Raw client IP is discarded after approved browser enrichment. OpenPost does not enable session replay or send post content, media, credentials, request bodies, email addresses, names, usernames, query strings, or raw URLs as telemetry properties. Location PostHog EU Cloud in Frankfurt, Germany. Transfer facts OpenPost selects PostHog's EU Cloud. PostHog describes its GDPR commitments and international-transfer safeguards in its privacy and GDPR documentation. posthog.com sourceposthog.com sourceposthog.com source ##### Cloudflare, Inc. Required service Subprocessor Purpose Stores media in R2 and delivers the public marketing and documentation sites and their static assets. Data Media objects and metadata; public-site request metadata such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, and timing. Location R2 uses automatic placement and is not restricted to one jurisdiction. Public-site delivery uses Cloudflare's global network. Transfer facts Cloudflare documents its international transfer mechanisms in its privacy policy and customer DPA. developers.cloudflare.com sourcedevelopers.cloudflare.com sourcecloudflare.com sourcecloudflare.com source ##### Add Rabbit LLC (Purelymail) Required service Subprocessor Purpose Sends account verification, password reset, security, and opted-in notification email. Data Recipient address, sender address, email content, and delivery metadata. Location Provider-operated Amazon Web Services infrastructure; OpenPost does not pin a region in its SMTP configuration. Transfer facts A managed-service transfer mechanism has not yet been recorded in this register. This is an open operator and legal review item. purelymail.com sourcepurelymail.com source ##### Paddle group Used for purchases Controller and processor Purpose Provides checkout, subscription management, payment processing, tax, fraud controls, refunds, and customer billing portals as Merchant of Record for Paddle orders. Data Account and transaction identifiers, contact and billing details, subscription state, tax information, fraud signals, and payment details entered directly into Paddle. Location Paddle lists controller entities in the United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, and Canada and uses further service providers. Transfer facts Paddle states that it uses Standard Contractual Clauses or other safeguards when a transfer is not covered by adequacy. paddle.com sourcepaddle.com source ##### OpenRouter, Inc. Used when the feature runs Subprocessor Purpose Routes an automatic image-description request after the user adds an image with no saved alternative text. Data A 400-pixel JPEG thumbnail, up to 1,000 characters of relevant draft context when present, locale, model, and request metadata. The original image is not sent. Location OpenRouter infrastructure; the managed request is restricted to a named EU model-hosting endpoint. Transfer facts The managed request denies provider data collection and requires a zero-data-retention endpoint. OpenRouter still keeps non-content request metadata as described in its policy. openrouter.ai sourceopenrouter.ai sourceopenrouter.ai source ##### Microsoft Azure Used when the feature runs Subprocessor Purpose Hosts the managed automatic image-description model selected through OpenRouter. Data The same thumbnail, optional bounded draft context, and generation instructions sent through OpenRouter. Location European Union endpoint selected as azure/eu. Transfer facts The managed request disables fallbacks, denies data collection, and requires OpenRouter's zero-data-retention classification for this endpoint. openrouter.ai sourceopenrouter.ai sourceprivacy.microsoft.com source ##### Discord Netherlands B.V. / Discord Inc. Used when feedback is sent Independent service provider Purpose Receives feedback reports sent through the managed in-app feedback form. Data The report text, optional screenshot, category, app version, route, workspace-safe diagnostics, and delivery metadata that the user chooses to submit. Location Provider-controlled infrastructure; Discord identifies its EEA controller in the Netherlands and also operates in the United States. Transfer facts Discord's privacy policy describes its international processing. OpenPost does not claim a separate Discord DPA for this feedback path. discord.com source ##### Pexels Used when the feature runs User-requested source Purpose Returns stock photo and video search results when the user searches the editor library. Data Search text, server request metadata, selection/download events required by the provider, and no OpenPost account credential. OpenPost states where a stronger control does not exist instead of implying an approval or audit system that has not been implemented. Who can access production One named operator administers the managed production host. OpenPost has no separate support staff with standing server or database access.Authentication Production SSH accepts named public keys only, blocks password and keyboard-interactive login, blocks direct root login, and uses sudo for privileged work. At this review, one operator identity has four named device or maintenance-host keys.Routine access Automated services handle ordinary operations. The operator does not routinely review drafts, media, messages, or connected-account data.Support access A support request does not grant direct production access. The operator may inspect the minimum relevant records when a user requests help or when recovery, security, abuse, legal, or fraud work requires it.Approval There is no two-person approval control. The same named operator authorizes and performs production access.Logging System and service journals record authentication and service events within size-bounded storage. The host does not provide a complete command-level audit trail, so OpenPost does not claim one.Emergency access Emergency access uses the same named keys, sudo boundary, and logging. There is no hidden bypass or shared support account.Review and revocation Authorized keys and production configuration are version-controlled. Access is reviewed when an operator device, maintenance host, role, or security configuration changes; obsolete keys are removed through the host deployment. No separate automated periodic access attestation exists. #### Review the current register before relying on it. OpenPost updates this register before a new service starts receiving managed customer data. When a change materially affects the Privacy Policy, OpenPost also advances the policy version and gives an in-service or email notice when appropriate. You made something useful. Now people need to hear about it. OpenPost helps you do that without making social media your whole job. #### Built for the person doing a bit of everything. When you run a small business, the product, customers, and content often land on the same desk. A quick update becomes a writing job, an image to edit, a video to trim, and several apps to open. OpenPost puts that work in one place. Start with what you’re building or learning. Write the post, make the media, and plan when to share it. Keep your drafts and assets ready for next time. The point is simple: spend less time repeating the work, and more time doing the work worth sharing. #### Independent. Made in Porto. OpenPost is built and operated by Rodrigo Dias in Porto, Portugal. It is a small, independent product for people building businesses of their own. Questions and feedback reach the person making it. Say hello #### Useful tools. Your decisions. ##### Make it yours. AI can help with a draft. You choose the words, images, and timing. Your business should sound like you. ##### See what happened. Know what is drafted, planned, published, or needs attention. When a channel cannot do something, OpenPost should tell you. ##### Keep your options.
