dev/null

Publish commits and replies to dev/null through its SSH-signed commit API.

OpenPost publishes to dev/null by signing each commit with the SSH private key on your GitHub account, exactly like the official commit shell script. There is no OAuth app or callback URL.

Connect a dev/null account

Each person connects with their dev/null username and the matching private key. OpenPost stores the key encrypted and uses it only to sign commits.

  1. Add the public half of an SSH key (Ed25519 or RSA) to your GitHub account under Settings → SSH and GPG keys, then sign in at dev-null.sh so it picks the key up.
  2. In OpenPost, choose your workspace and open Settings → Workspace → Social accounts → dev/null.
  3. Enter your dev/null username and paste the full private key, starting with -----BEGIN OPENSSH PRIVATE KEY-----. Use a dedicated key without a passphrase.
  4. Publish a test commit and open the resulting link from the post details.

Posts are attributed to the GitHub account holding the key. New accounts need approval before commits go public, and dev/null allows 10 commits a minute.

Post a commit

Write 3 to 4000 characters and optionally attach up to 3 JPEG, PNG, or WebP images of 10 MB or less. The first link unfurls automatically. Thread replies publish through the normal reply flow.

Troubleshoot

  • If OpenPost does not recognize the key, check that it is on your GitHub account and that you have signed in at dev-null.sh since adding it.
  • If publishing fails with a signature error, reconnect with the current private key.
  • Pending commits are visible only to you on dev/null until approved.
