Connect accounts
Add and manage social accounts in a workspace.
Connect a social account before creating a post for it. In the workspace you want to use, open Settings → Workspace → Social accounts and choose a provider. For accounts that use provider sign-in, approve access there and return to OpenPost to select the profile, Page, or channel.
Before you connect
| Provider | Account or credential |
|---|---|
| Bluesky | Handle and app password |
| Mastodon | Public HTTPS instance, or a preconfigured instance |
| Discord | Incoming webhook URL |
| X, LinkedIn, Threads, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube | Provider account and permission to publish to the chosen destination |
On Hosted, OpenPost manages provider applications. If you run your own server, your administrator configures them under self-hosting.
Instagram requires a Business or Creator account. After choosing Instagram, select Continue with Instagram to sign in directly without a Facebook Page, or Continue with Facebook to connect through a linked Page you manage. Methods that are not configured on your server are disabled. Facebook publishing requires a Page, not a personal profile.
TikTok and YouTube may require provider review before public posting. OpenPost shows the actions supported by your connected account and its granted permissions. Provider rules can change, so follow the reason shown beside an unavailable option.
Turn on optional account features
Select the connected account to open its details. Turn on Analytics, Comments and replies, or Direct messages separately if the provider and your plan support them. Some features need another provider permission. For eligible Bluesky and Mastodon accounts, More → Find people is also available.
Import posts published directly on an account
Open the account's details and select Imported posts → Turn on. OpenPost starts checking for posts published after you turn imports on. It does not backfill older posts.
Imported posts appear in a read-only library in those details, with their text, date, and a link to the original when available. They do not become editable posts or trigger publishing or Workflows. Media stays on the provider.
| Provider | Import availability |
|---|---|
| Bluesky, Mastodon, Pixelfed | Original posts from the connected account. Replies and reposts are excluded. |
| Threads | The connected account's original posts, with permission to read its Threads. |
| Media captions from the connected professional account. | |
| Posts authored by the connected Page, with permission to read Page content. | |
| Original Pins owned by the connected account, with Pins and boards read permission. Saved Pins from other accounts are excluded. | |
| YouTube | Public, processed videos from the connected channel. |
| TikTok | Public videos, with approved Display API access and video read permission. Publishing access alone is insufficient. |
| Public original posts. Page imports require organization read permission and enabled Page support. Member imports require LinkedIn's restricted member read permission. | |
| PeerTube | Public videos from the connected channel. |
| Lemmy, PieFed | Posts authored by the connected person, excluding removed or deleted posts. |
| Google Business Profile | Live local posts for the connected location, with Business Profile access. |
| X | Disabled. |
| Telegram, Discord | Unavailable for the connected bot or webhook account type. |
OpenPost checks accounts about once a day. Large result sets continue from a saved page on later checks. Each account has a daily provider request limit, so the library may take more than one check to catch up. Permission errors and provider rate limits leave the account connected and show a reason in Imported posts.
Use Reconnect when the reason asks for another permission. Some permissions also require approval from the provider for your server's application, so reconnecting cannot grant unapproved access. Select Turn off to stop further imports. The stored library stays available.
Reconnect or remove an account
Use Reconnect if a token expired or you need to approve another permission. If several destinations share one authorization, disconnecting one leaves the others connected. Removing that authorization disconnects every destination that uses it. To revoke access at the provider too, use the provider's security settings.
Bluesky
Create an app password in Bluesky → Settings, then enter the handle and app password in OpenPost. Use the handle, not the account email. No server-side OAuth app is required.
Mastodon
Select a preconfigured server or enter a public HTTPS instance. Each Mastodon server can have its own app and limits.
