Inbox and notifications

Answer comments, incoming mentions, business reviews and conversations.

Use Inbox to read and answer activity from connected accounts. Activity, direct messages, and notifications have separate controls. Turn on only the account features you need; a provider may support one without supporting another.

Turn on account activity or messages

Open Settings → Workspace → Social accounts and select an account. Inspect Inbox activity and Direct messages, then enable each supported feature separately. If an option is unavailable, read its explanation. You may need another provider permission or a supported account type.

Turning a feature off stops its future activity. Saved history stays available and the social account remains connected.

Read and reply to comments

On mobile, open Inbox → Activity. On web, choose Inbox → Engagement. Choose Comments, then filter by account, unread state, or archived activity and select a comment. Its detail shows the original post and the known parent replies. Check both the selected person and the receiving account above the public reply field before sending. A public reply is visible on the social network.

OpenPost queues the action and keeps a receipt so retrying an interrupted request does not create another reply. If the provider rejects it, the app keeps the failed reply and receipt after a restart. Check the original thread before choosing Start a new reply. That explicit action preserves the failed receipt and prepares an editable draft; sending it creates a separate intentional reply. Unconfirmed delivery keeps the original request identity. Marking a comment read does not mean you have replied or resolved it.

Archive comment has an Undo action. Reopen it from Archived to reply again. Moderation actions depend on the provider. Use the actions shown for that comment to hide, delete, or respond. Use Load older to reach saved history beyond the first page.

Read incoming mentions

Open Inbox → Activity on mobile or Inbox → Engagement on web, then choose Mentions. These are posts that mention a connected account, including posts created outside OpenPost. They do not need a matching OpenPost post. The receiving account and the author are shown separately.

Incoming mentions are available through Bluesky notifications, Mastodon mention notifications, and the Threads mentions endpoint. Mastodon needs read:notifications; Threads needs threads_manage_mentions. Older authorizations may need reconnection. Mastodon direct posts stay in Chats. Reply actions depend on the account's write permissions and the network; Mastodon replies retain the original visibility.

Selecting people or pages while writing a post is a separate action. Use the post editor's mention search and choose the provider identity for each account version.

Answer Google Business reviews

Choose Reviews to read feedback for a connected Google Business location. The location must be verified and the Google grant must include business.manage. A location may support reviews even when local-post publishing is unavailable. Provider approval and account permissions still apply.

Reviews may contain only a rating, or come from an anonymous reviewer. OpenPost keeps those reviews visible. The review shows your current owner reply and its Google moderation state:

  • Pending review means Google has accepted the reply for moderation.
  • Approved means Google reports approval.
  • Rejected means Google reports rejection. Any supplied policy code stays visible.

Google allows one owner reply per review, with a limit of 4096 UTF-8 bytes. Editing the reply replaces that value. Remove your reply removes only the owner reply; the customer's review stays visible. OpenPost cannot delete customer reviews.

Inspect the reply receipt before replacing a reply whose outcome is still being checked. OpenPost reconciles an uncertain send before sending again. Provider acceptance and a completed delivery job do not establish public visibility; check the separate moderation state. Pending moderation is checked independently of the review's own update time. See Google's review contract for the provider's current rules.

Keep shared read state

Read and archive state is shared by everyone in the Workspace. Mark all matching read applies the selected activity, account, platform, post and archive filters across every page, including items that are not loaded on the device. A post filter limits results to activity associated with that OpenPost post.

Use Refresh or pull to refresh to request collection. Feed health distinguishes comments, mentions and reviews. Saved pages remain visible when a later provider page fails, and collection resumes its unfinished cursor. Missing provider results do not mark an item deleted. Read-only Workspace roles can inspect and refresh activity; editing read state or sending replies requires editor access.

Automate saved activity

The API uses /api/v1/engagement for comments, mentions and reviews. Use kind=comment, kind=mention or kind=review with the same account, platform, post and archive filters shown in Inbox. Reading saved activity never collects from the provider.

ActionHTTP operation
List saved itemsGET /api/v1/engagement
Read one item and its contextGET /api/v1/engagement/{id}
Request collectionPOST /api/v1/engagement/refresh
Mark every matching unread item readPOST /api/v1/engagement/read
Change shared read or archive statePOST /api/v1/engagement/state
Queue a reply or supported actionPOST /api/v1/engagement/{id}/actions

Supply the Workspace ID and keep one client_operation_id for retries of the same action. Wait for its job before replacing a review reply, then read the item to check Google's separate moderation state. Mutations require Workspace editing permission.

The CLI, TypeScript SDK, and MCP tools expose the same stored activity and durable actions.

Work with direct messages

On mobile, open Inbox → Chats. On web, choose Inbox → Messages. Browse existing conversations, ordered by recent activity. Search people and saved messages, filter by receiving account, or choose Unread. Each conversation identifies the network and the account you will reply from. Starting a new conversation is not available.

Select a conversation for its full-screen chat. OpenPost keeps your draft for that conversation on the device. New messages do not pull you away while you read older history. Use Load older messages for earlier saved messages. Where supported, Load older history from network queues another history page.

Archive removes a chat from the main list. Use Undo immediately or find it under Archived. A new incoming message returns the chat to the main list.

While Inbox is open, OpenPost collects and displays updates according to the provider's supported transport and limits. Leaving the app stops its foreground connection. Reopening Inbox refreshes stored history. Pull to refresh to request upstream collection, then check the stored last successful collection time. The app waits for the collection jobs and reports when completion remains unconfirmed. Read-only roles can refresh stored items. Mobile push alerts are not part of this release.

Check the conversation's provider restrictions before replying:

  • Facebook and Instagram enforce a customer-service reply window. OpenPost blocks sends after the stored deadline.
  • X requires direct-message permission for the app and connected account. Manage X messaging opens account settings for separate messaging authorization when needed. Publishing authorization stays connected. Event subscriptions require administrator configuration and an explicit budget; ordinary authorization does not activate them. Encrypted XChat conversations are unsupported.
  • Bluesky chat requires an app-password session.
  • Mastodon direct posts are visible to the mentioned accounts and involved servers. They are not end-to-end encrypted.

The send state describes what OpenPost knows:

  • Sending… means the app is submitting your request.
  • Queued means OpenPost saved it for delivery.
  • Sent means the provider accepted the message. It does not establish delivery or a read receipt.
  • Delivery unconfirmed means the request may have reached the server or provider. Keep the message and use its safe recovery action. OpenPost reuses the original request identity and blocks a resend when the provider outcome remains ambiguous.
  • Failed retains the message and its error. Reconnect an expired account or fix the reported issue before retrying.

Sending a direct message does not create a post. Read indicators appear only when the provider supplies that state.

Choose email notifications

Open Settings → Personal → Notifications. For each optional event, choose Off, Immediate, or Daily email. Set a delivery time and timezone for the daily digest. If email delivery is unavailable, a self-hosted administrator must configure an email provider.

In-app notifications still appear immediately. Security, access, invitation, and critical billing messages use their own delivery rules.

Use a temporary Mute to pause optional email for every workspace or one selected workspace until a chosen time. End now restores your saved choices early. Muting does not disable in-app alerts or transactional messages.

Notifications for a post link to the affected result. If only one destination failed, inspect that variant and retry it without reposting to the destinations that succeeded.
